In this post, we’re taking a closer look at the Root Chakra. This is the first of the seven chakra energy centers.
Sanskrit Name: Muladhara
Location: The Muladhara starts at the base of the spine and goes to the pelvic floor, including the first three vertebrae.
Signs of Balance: When your Root chakra is in balance, you’ll have a sense of security and safety. Your feelings of stability will be obvious to those around you. You may receive compliments about how grounded you are. This is a nice place to be as it makes you feel that you can handle the challenges and overcome the obstacles that are placed in front of you.
Signs of Imbalance: When your Root chakra is suffering from blocks, you’ll feel a great deal of anxiety. You could have ongoing nightmares. Physically, you could experience pain in your legs and feet. Emotionally, you may feel disconnect from those around you, even if they’re the ones closest to you. There seems to be no one that can help you or that you feel you can trust.
Here in the first chakra, we find the base of our physical selves. This chakra is associated with our primal selves: physical vitality, survival instincts and our flight or fight reactions. It’s also the place that holds our family core values. This is also a place where jealousy and greed manifest themselves which is why so many who have these feelings find themselves spiraling out of control. Symptoms of imbalance may be realized as a lack of vitality, envy and anger.
Feelings of insecurity should be addressed by working on eliminating blocks at the root chakra. This is where you anchor yourself to the Universe.
Root is the beginning and to some who seek to reach the psychic wonders of the Third Eye chakra or the enlightening stages of the Crown chakra, this may seem like a mundane place. Remember that everything that grows from or is built upon the land is only as strong as its root system or foundation. It’s important to continually nurture this system in order to strengthen the pathway to your higher self.
Grounding the Muladhara is essential to finding balance within all of our chakras.
